MATT ELLIOTT - Guitar
Matt Elliott has enjoyed music of all genres from his earliest memories. He began playing guitar at 12 years of age and has explored many different playing styles and techniques. His first performance experience was with “The Salty Dogs,” a blue grass band formed with friends in high school. After moving from upstate New York to New Orleans, Matt sang and played solo acoustic guitar in local establishments and offered his repertoire on many afternoons and evenings as a street musician in Jackson Square. Over the past few years Matt has performed with “Voices” as a guitar soloist as well as lead bass vocalist in the choir. He is currently working with a local jazz pianist playing standards ranging from “Summertime” to “Girl from Ipanema.” Matt’s teaching approach includes a mix of theory, ear training, pitch recognition and repertoire development met with the student’s interest direction and level of expertise. He embraces the philosophy of the The Ugarte Studio where music is considered an essential tool in the development of life skills.
